Roof Replacement in Fort Worth, Texas
This is a roof replacement that Lighthouse Residential Roofing did in Fort Worth, Texas. This roof has a difficult area called a “dead valley.” Your roof’s architecture is designed to create a water flow. This is done with the use of ridges, slopes, and valleys. A dead valley is an area where water flows to a lower sloped section of roof where it can pool up instead of flow off of the roof. This can cause water to pool up and run backwards under the shingles, especially here in North Texas where we get buckets of rain and not just sprinkles. This particular dead valley had been an area of concern for the homeowner and once we removed the existing roof we could see that this had been a problem in the past as the decking had deteriorated in that area from water penetrating the underlayment. We replaced the decking that rotted out and also installed a sheet of metal flashing where the joints of all the decking come together in this area. The metal flashing will create a smoother surface to encourage the water to flow smoothly instead of pool up in this area. We then covered the new decking and the metal flashing with ice and water shield. This is a protective underlayment that actually adheres to the decking and is designed to keep water from penetrating low slope or no slope roofs. This area should now be a worry free part of this homeowner’s roof.
